My Story
Hi! I’m Angela. I have loved mamas and babies as long as I can remember. You could always find me holding a baby every chance I got from even early childhood. My daily prayer has always included “and for all the babies and the mamas”. I probably should’ve seen this midwifery journey coming! I had my first baby in the hospital in 2006 and experienced an underwhelming and interventive standard birth and postpartum experience. I had my first home birth in 2009 and the more I researched and experienced, the more I fell in love with home birth midwifery care in all the ways. I attended my first birth to support a friend in 2012 and a few others in the coming years in a doula role, reading all the birth books and spending time with many birthworker friends. I have had 5 births of my own with various experiences as well as two miscarriages at home under the care of a midwife. The first one was actually the catalyst to beginning my own midwifery journey in 2018. Through that loss, something shifted within me and the call was loud and clear. I also experienced firsthand the gap in maternity care surrounding miscarriage and I aim to be part of the change needed. Women deserve better.
My midwifery training included a full-time traditional apprenticeship with a wonderful midwife for two years, as well as a short time with another local midwife, and assisting a couple others along the way. I took some time in the beginning to practice as a doula and attended both at home and in the hospital, which has been a great asset to me in navigating the larger maternity care system with clients. I completed Indie Birth Midwifery School, a rigorous online program emphasizing both the art and science of midwifery. I have attended midwifery skills workshops and am certified in CPR, Basic Life Saving, and Neonatal Resuscitation. I have attended Reteach Breech and Breech Without Borders trainings and attended the 2023 and 2024 Twins-Breech Conferences. Preserving the option for Vaginal Breech Birth is a particular passion of mine and I will continue to seek opportunities to grow in these skills and experience. I completed the Portfolio Evaluation Process to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through the North American Registry of Midwives in 2023, and to be licensed in the state of Wisconsin. I am blessed with a supportive midwife community locally and afar and will continue to consult with voices of more experience as I grow in my own.
Most of all, I am a community midwife that believes in physiological birth and a long, beautiful tradition of midwives walking with women through their childbearing years, empowering them to know and trust their bodies and their babies and the wisdom within. Yes, I have credentials that reflect my formal training, but I believe that birth does not belong to any of us, especially the government or hospital system, and I am deeply humbled to be called into this space each time. My own great, great grandmother was a midwife, and however long God asks me to serve in this way, I am honored to hold hands with my ancestors and yours, all the women that have birthed before us and all the midwives beside them, and to preserve the sacred, wild nature of birth.
